Feature and Follow Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read that gives bloggers the opportunity to gain followers and meet other bloggers!
This Week's Question...
Do your reading habits change based on your mood? Do you read a certain genre if you are feeling depressed or happy?
I'm going to have to give a big yes to this one! Whenever I'm scanning through my bookshelf, trying to pick a book to read, my mood at that moment greatly determines what book I choose. For example, when I'm stressed or upset about something, I go for a book that looks extra happy and swoon worthy. But when I'm in a really good mood, darker books are always more appealing. I guess I kind of live by that saying, "We all want what we don't have." If I'm happy, I want to be sad....If I'm sad, I want to be happy...man, I'm difficult ! *Embraces Bipolar-ness* ;P
Thanks for sticking around and reading my answer to this week's FF question! If you subscribe to my blog, be sure to leave a comment and I'll make sure I follow you back! See you next Friday!
Your Y.A. Bookworm,
Caitlin <3
Oh that's interesting: a dark read when your happy?! wow. I couldn't do that. I want happy books all the time!
ReplyDeleteTrish - My FF
Being happy makes me better equipped to handle darker reads...if I'm in a down mood and read something dark I become mush, lol!
DeleteI am a shelf scanner too and I usually have to read and re-read the backs of the books before I can pick out the one that I like.

I have this dilemma too- I take forever to choose a book to read :P I'm now following you !

Aha, thanks for the follow =D
DeleteHa, that really is true. Always wanting to read about the opposite feeling you are in. The only thing is I get a little TOO lost in the books so when a character is angry at her boyfriend I tend to lash out at mine too and then have to apologize to him later for it (tehe).

LOL, I laughed so hard while reading your comment :D It's funny how books can sometimes change our mood! I know when I'm upset with a character or plot in a certain book, I get in a really sour mood ! They've got so much power over me :P Thanks for the follow, I'm following back !
DeleteI have a love/hate relationship with dark and/or sad books. Great answer!
ReplyDeleteNew follower,
Danna
I'm going to have to agree with you there...I like darker books a lot more than sad books though. Darker books are just more interesting to me...sad books are just very depressing. I'm following you!
DeleteIf I am angsty I want to read gore. If I am happy I totally want something steamy. Weird... We all want what we can't have for shiz.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by! BTW I love me some Damon on your sidebar :)

DeleteHey Caitlin! Oh that saying is sooo right! I'm a bit of a moody person.. It's the Libra in me ^_^ But when it comes to books I'm not that moody. I'll read the books in my genre until I feel the need to genre hop.. lawd knows I'm a genre hoppin' ho! ;) shh don't tell no one! Great answer!

DeleteI'm bipolar like that sometimes as well! But more often than not, just reading will put me in a better mood :)
ReplyDeleteHere's my FF

Agreed- simple reading can brighten my mood :D Thanks for stopping by !
DeleteI also really love darker reads when I am happy. For some reason, reading about someone else's misery just makes me happier. But that's probably not very nice of me :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by. I'm a new follower.
Ohhh I never thought about it that way....maybe that's why I love reading other people's problems when I'm happy ;P Thanks for following!
DeleteI've never really paid too much attention to how my mood directly affects which genre I'm choosing but I'm sure I probably do this too. Thanks for stopping by our FF.
ReplyDeleteThank-you for dropping by and leaving a comment :)
DeleteI'm the exact opposite. :) I read dark books when sad and happy books when happy to match my mood. But you should definitely embrace your bipolarness! It's a cool way of picking books.
ReplyDeleteNew follower!
Thanks! I am now following your blog =D
DeleteMy mood at the time determines what book I choose too.

New Follower.
Glad to hear I'm not the only one! Thank-you for the follow !
DeleteLol your answer made me smile! I'm not really that way though. If anything, if I'm in a sad or depressed mood I MAY look for a sadder book just so I can get the satisfaction that someone is doing worse than me... because I am not a good person lol that's mean... but that rarely ever happens. New follower! And thanks for visiting my blog!
ReplyDeleteShae @ Understanding Shae's Story
Aha- I sometimes take pleasure out of character's pain too :P Glad I was able to make you smile! Thanks for following! =D
DeleteSee, I do the opposite thing with movies! When I'm in a really good mood, I won't mind picking up a generally dark or bitter-sweet movie. When I'm sad, the last thing I want to see is a sad movie or a horror flick!
ReplyDeleteWith books, I tend not to follow that same pattern. Not sure why... Hm! There's one for the scientists I suppose!
Following via GFC and also Twitter!
Happy Friday!
That's funny- it's weird how that works! Thank-you for following!
DeleteThanks for stopping by and for the follow! New GFC follower :) Have a great week-end!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the follow! Happy Friday!
DeleteThat's interesting. I find that my mood makes me want to change genre. Ohh reading sasd books when you're happy?! I find I can never read sad books because it makes me sad well after I've finished it :/
ReplyDeleteNew Follower via RSS! :)

I read more dark than sad but yeah, if I read those books when I was down...it wouldn't be good :P I followed your blog and twitter!

DeleteHey New follower and fellow teen bookworm x. :)
ReplyDeletehttp://ebonyblacklines.blogspot.co.uk/
Hi! I love meeting other teen book lovers :D
DeleteI'm a new follower!
I'm the same way, except books don't usually upset me if I'm happy. Well, I can usually let go of the sadness pretty quickly after the book is over anyway. I do try to read emotional stories when I'm in a good mood, though. And a happy book usually puts a bounce in my step when I'm feeling down. Hmm...kind of strange that an emotional book doesn't affect my mood much, but a positive story does... Oh well. I guess that's a good thing??? lol!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the visit and follow! Following you, too. :)
Really?! I wish I was that way! Like, if I read anything by Nicholas Sparks, I'm depressed for weeks.....I tend to stay away from him :P Thanks for the follow!
